We found the source of the slowness yesterday, and have corrected the problem.
Apparently the folks that read Thrillist were really interested. We had such a high conversion of visits to new registered members of Winescorecard.com that our user registration system could not handle the volume. Approximately 20% of the visitors that tried to open an account got bogged down by timeouts. We streamlined the code and brought additional CPU power on-line to handle this in the future.
We apologize for the hiccup. We would like to say that these growing pains are unavoidable, but in truth we should have caught this one earlier.
One the good side, clearly the concept of PalatePrintâ„¢ is proving attractive; and we have many more members today than we did yesterday. Together, we can all drink better wine. Wine that fits our palate.
