Over my head

October 24th, 2007 · No Comments

I think the thing that bothers me the most about being interested in wine is that I am constantly feeling stupid. This is especially true when I read about wine.

I can read an article about wine and have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

I should just accept that there are some things that I won’t understand. Or at least that I won’t want to understand. But still, such things leave me cold.

How it tastes, I can understand. I guess, in the end, this is really the only part that really interests me. Perhaps I’m too outcome driven. I get flustered by the noise around the “art” of wine. I have no doubt that this is all real, and incredibly important to some folks. Just not really so much to me.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way. Confused. A bit frustrated. Left out. Like we need a “Festivus for the Rest of Us” for wine. Of course, that is why we started winescorecard.com. Even besides that, if you look around online enough, there are plenty of websites that take a decidedly “common” approach to wine. That, in itself, is a Festivus Miracle.

[As an aside, I’ve highlighted a blog entry from The Pour from the NY Times. I should say that I often enjoy this blog quite a bit, just not this particular entry.]
